The urgency of halal ports
Prof. Dr. Marco Tieman was guest in the Sharia Economy Talk at Metro TV (Indonesia) on Thursday 3 June 2021, to talk about the urgency of halal ports. According to Prof. Tieman, the halal port is the missing link in halal supply chains, and critical to be addressed to ensure that (1) halal cargo is identified & communicated in the halal supply chain and (2) properly segregated at all stages from source to point of consumer purchase. The halal port is important infrastructure for a country’s halal ecosystem, covering various aspects of port operations, such as communication of halal status, stuffing of containers, storage, and cargo inspection. Halal ports need to establish a halal assurance system and can get certified according to local or international halal standards (OIC/SMIIC 17:2020).
